Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction (MBSR)Program
Dr. David Tate has taught thousands of people over the past 30 years how to reduce stress in lasting ways through rediscovering and cultivating their natural ability to be mindful, close to a thousand of whom have participated in the full Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction program (2 month/9 session). The next MBSR class will hopefully be offered in 2025 once the construction of a local mindfulness center is complete.
Currently a free weekly Mindfulness in Everyday Life class is being offered by Dr. Tate in the group room at his office. Please contact him about it through email and he will email you with the details (davidtatephd@gmail.com).
Is it timely for you to learn how to better meet the challenges and demands of everyday life, while also improving your physical, mental and emotional health? Do you suffer from anxiety, depression, chronic pain, insomnia, low energy, chronic fatigue, anger issues, heart disease, an autoimmune disorder, a skin or G.I. disorder, weight issues, an eating disorder, low self-esteem, or relationship problems? If so, learning mindfulness skills and practicing them could be very beneficial for you, like it has been for so many others!
Over the past few decades a substantial body of research, including Dr. Tate's doctoral dissertation research, has demonstrated significant clinical improvement for participants in the MBSR program. For example, Time Magazine's cover article, The Mindful Revolution: The science of finding focus in a stressed-out, multitasking culture, reported that "scientists have been able to prove that meditation and rigorous mindfulness training can lower cortisol levels and blood pressure, increase immune response and...have an impact on the structure of the brain itself." Thousands of studies on mindfulness interventions have been conducted over the past four decades, especially in the last several years, many of which have been specific outcome studies on this original MBSR program. (Search "mindfulness research" and you will find a wealth of excellent information. Also see: https://www.mindfulnessutah.com/resources for an excellent list of resources and research links). The vast majority of people who complete the Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction program report:
* Clinically significant decreases in anxiety and stress reactivity
* Lasting decreases in other physical and psychological symptoms, including the aforementioned conditions
* Significant reductions in pain levels and an enhanced ability to cope with persistent pain
* Markedly improved mood and self-esteem, with a greater enthusiasm for life
* An increased ability to relax as well as greater energy and vitality
* An ability to cope more effectively with both short and long-term stressful situations (i.e., stress resiliency)
From 1990-1995 Dr. Tate helped establish, taught classes, and conducted research at the Stress Reduction Clinic at IHC Hospitals in Salt Lake City, Utah. The program was one of the first of now hundreds of programs patterned after the world-famous University of Massachusetts Medical Center Stress Reduction Program. It was cited at that time by Dr. Tate’s mentor, Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn, as “the oldest, largest and best replication of our program.” Dr. Tate has taught MBSR in a variety of business and healthcare settings, locally and nationally, including as the Program Director and Lead Mindfulness Teacher at Miraval, Life in Balance, and through trainings for leaders and staff at Nike, Ernst and Young, New Line Cinema, Abbott Laboratories, AT&T, the national Make-A-Wish Foundation, the NCAA and Zion National Park. Dr. Kabat-Zinn's pioneering work was featured on 60 Minutes in December, 2014 (click here to watch).
"Dr. David Tate has been involved in teaching stress management to my patients using mindfulness meditation. This has been very beneficial to my patients suffering from migraines, fibromyalgia and other disorders. I personally have also participated in his program and found it to be extremely helpful in my own life. I believe he is a highly qualified, excellent professional." - R. Robert Taylor, M.D.
"I have referred many patients to Dr. Tate's practice and they felt quite improved by applying the techniques of meditation to which he subscribes. I myself took the course and found it to be quite helpful. I wholeheartedly recommend Dr. Tate to anyone who might consider him for the treatment of stress-related disorders."
